A total of nine people were killed in traffic accidents across Turkey as the Turkish people began to celebrate their Eid al-Adha holidays on Sunday, local Today's zaman reported. On Sunday, the police reported that four people were killed when a car hit a cement barrier in the central province of Amasya. Meanwhile, three people were killed when a car went out of control and hit them while they were walking on a road in the western province of Izmir, the police said, adding that the other two victims died from traffic accidents. Despite the warnings from officials and attempts to improve road safety conditions, accidents were likely to increase during the holidays as most of the Turkish people would go back to their hometowns to stay with their families as a tradition, the officials added.
