Nine elementary school students were hurt when their school bus was rear-ended by a pickup in the U.S. state of Texas Friday, local media reported. The bus was struck Friday morning while stopped at an intersection in Mineral Wells in north Texas, the website of the Houston Chronicle reported. Police said 18 students were on the bus and nine were taken to a hospital for treatment. The others were either picked up by parents or continued to school. Mineral Wells school district spokeswoman Karyn Bullock confirmed to the media that the nine students were treated for minor injuries and later released. The students range in age from 7 to 12. The driver of the pickup who ran away from the accident was later stopped and arrested. It was not yet clear what exactly caused the accident. No other information is available now. Though the United States is reputed for its strict school bus safety code, such accidents are not uncommon. On Wednesday, nine elementary school students were injured after their school bus collided with another school bus in east Texas.
