The Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs on Tuesday said that the country's security forces had killed 22 Taliban militants during operations since early Monday.
"Over the past 24 hours, Afghan army, police and intelligence agency carried out several cleanup operations in Nangarhar, Laghman, Sari Pul, Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Logar, Herat, Badghis and Helmand provinces. They battled the militants, killing 22 armed militants, wounding 12 and arresting five other militants," the ministry said in a statement.
The security forces also found and seized weapons, the statement said, without saying if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.
The Taliban-led violence continues in Afghanistan. Security forces have press on to clear the militants in restive provinces.
The Taliban responds by bombing and armed attacks.
On Monday, about 18 civilians were injured by gunshots in an armed engagement between Taliban and the security forces in a local bazaar in eastern Nangarhar province.
The Taliban insurgent group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments.
