Unidentified armed men targeted and killed a local official in the eastern Nangarhar province with Jalalabad as its capital, 125 km east of the capital city Kabul on Monday, the provincial government said in a statement sent to media outlets on Tuesday. "Mohammad Zaman, the director of the Statistic Department of Chaparhar district was going from office to home when unknown armed men intercepted his car and took him out and sprayed bullet, killing him on the spot," the statement added. It also blamed the enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban militants for the deadly attack, saying the enemies by attacking soft targets want to terrorize the locals.
