
At least 7 people perished and 18 others injured late Thursday when the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a road accident in Kericho County in northwest Kenya. The fatal accident happened near Chagaik area, one of the multinational tea estates along Kericho-Nakuru highway. Kericho County Commissioner William ole Kakimoni said the accident involved a saloon car and 14-seater minibus. "The driver of the saloon car which was heading to Kericho town lost control collided with a Nissan matatu that heading to Kenyan city Nairobi," said Kakimoni. He added that all the 7 people died on the spot, while 4 others were seriously injured and rushed to the local hospital for treatment and 14 others sustained minor injuries. "Only one passenger from the saloon car survived, while the rest of the passengers, who were believed to be members of the same family died in the incident," Kakimoni said. The local police commander urged the private motorists to avoid over speeding along the roads adding that all the vehicles should observe traffic rules. Meanwhile, two people escaped death narrowly when they lorry they were travelling lost control in notorious Ntulele black spot in Narok County. The accident happened when the brakes of the lorry failed and overturned in the middle of the Narok-Mai Mahiu highway. They were rushed to Narok District Hospital for treatment. Last week, two people were killed on the same spot after their trailer lost control.
