At least eight people died and 10 more injured on Sunday in a road accident on a section of highway in Mexico's western state of Michoacan, local Civil Protection authorities said in a statement.
Michoacan's Civil Protection authorities said the accident occurred Sunday morning about 189 kilometers of Siglo 21 Highway, which links Morelia, the state capital, and Lazaro Cardenas city and port in the coast of Michoacan.
According to the authorities, a truck and a compact car crashed on the highway at Cuatro Caminos town.
Preliminary reports said speeding was the cause of the accident.
The victims include one baby, four women and three men. Those injured, some seriously, were taken to a local hospital near the site of the accident.
