
t least 10 people were killed and many others went missing after a boat rammed into a mining ship and sank off Guinea's southern coast, local authorities said Saturday.
The boat's motor failed and was driven by waves toward the ship, Ali Bamba, an official of Forecariah region, where the mishap happened, was quoted by media as saying.
Ten bodies had been recovered and transferred to a local morgue, he said, adding that 18 people were rescued while 12 others were still unaccounted for.
A local security source earlier said that nine people were dead and around 30 others missing in the accident.
Guinean Prime Minister Mohamed Said Fofana traveled to the site in the wake of the accident, while local authorities were continuing with search and rescue efforts.
