Fourteen people remain missing following a boat capsizing that occurred on the Lancang-Mekong River in southwest China’s Yunnan Province on Sunday, local authorities said Monday. The Mengla county government said 14 people, including eight students from Myanmar, remain missing despite several rounds of searching, Xinhua reported. The Myanmar-registered boat capsized after leaving a village port in Myanmar, located about 5 km from Mengla county, shortly after noon Sunday. The county rescue team said the accident was caused by overloading. Twenty-two people, including 10 adults and 12 students attending a school in Mengla’s village of Guanlei, were on the ship when it capsized. Local villagers managed to rescue eight of the passengers.
