Gunfire that left two police officers in Englewood, Calif., injured Wednesday became a standoff with the suspected gunman possibly holding at least one hostage. Authorities were evacuating residents of the neighborhood, the Los Angeles Times reported. The incident began when officers responded to a domestic disturbance. One officer was shot and the other suffered minor injuries in the confrontation, Inglewood police Capt. James Madia said. Both were expected to survive. City police spokesman Oscar Mejia said he could not confirm whether there were any hostages. "We don't know how many there are if any at all, but we are treating it as a hostage situation," he said. A neighbor told the newspaper she ran outside after hearing screaming about 12:30 p.m. She said she saw a man dragging her 14-year-old neighbor into the house. Another woman, Kimberly Edwards, said she saw a man pleading with police officers to rescue his sister, who he said was being held in the house. A short time later, there was gunfire and she said she saw a female police officer stagger in the street and fall down. The officer was helped away by another officer, she said.
