The Archdiocese of Chicago has agreed to pay $2.3 million to a young man who says he was abused by a priest between 2004 and 2006. The plaintiff said he was molested by the Rev. Daniel McCormack, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The lawsuit charged the diocese was aware McCormack was a child abuser or should have known. Jeff Anderson and Marc Pearlman, representing the plaintiff, said the archdiocese also agreed as part of the settlement to release files Jan. 15 on McCormack and other priests who allegedly sexually abused children. "So, this settlement represents some closure for this victim, but it also represents a commitment to make sure that the history regarding McCormack and 29 other offenders is made known and public so that the past can be revealed and not repeated in the future," Anderson said. McCormack was defrocked in 2007 and pleaded guilty to molesting several boys at St. Agatha's Church. The archdiocese has already paid damages to some of his other victims.
