Colombian army confirmed Tuesday that one soldier was killed, two injured and another kidnapped after an ambush by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in the country's southwestern region.
"Criminals of the FARC's Southern 32nd Front intended to stop a convoy of 12 petrol tankers, which were to pour the oil on the Mansoya-Santana road. When the convoy were passing by, the motorized troops escorting the vehicles were attacked with improvised explosive devices," the Colombian army's sixth division said, according to the country's Caracol Radio network.
Army commander Gabriel Pinilla condemned this new attack conducted by the rebel group and local media reported that the kidnapped soldier is a lieutenant identified as Cristian Moscoso, who commanded the platoon that frustrated the oil spill by the rebels.
"It is our commitment of the Army to the country and his family to do not allow the FARC hold a solider kidnapped. Preliminary information tells us that the soldier kidnapped is defenseless and wounded," the statement added.
Official Pinilla said the military patrol was attacked with explosives from both sides of the road and the motorcycle of lieutenant Moscoso was separated from the rest.
The FARC guerrilla threatened last week to increase attacks on the security forces after they stopped the unilateral ceasefire that had held since December because of a bombing by the Air Force to a rebel camp that left 26 rebels dead.
