The U.S. Congress' approval rating dropped to 10 percent in August, tying February as the lowest in Gallup's history of the measurement, the pollster said. Eighty-three percent of Americans said they disapprove of the way Congress is doing its job, results of the poll released Tuesday indicated. Congress' approval has averaged 34 percent in the more than 230 times it has been measured since April 1974, Gallup said. Congress approval has been less than 20 percent every month since June 2011, dropping to 10 percent in February and now. Congressional approval is down among all political groups and is virtually the same for Democrats, at 9 percent, Republicans at 10 percent and independents at 11 percent, the Princeton, N.J. polling firm said. Democrats' approval declined the most, falling from 18 percent in July. Results are based on nationwide telephone interviews conducted Thursday through Sunday with 1,012 adults. The margin of error is 4 percentage points.
