A couple drowned and their teenage son is missing after they tried to save the family dog from heavy surf along a California beach, authorities say. The Eureka Times-Standard said the U.S. Coast Guard said the couple's daughter reportedly called in the emergency at Big Lagoon, about 32 miles north of Eureka, Saturday afternoon. The newspaper reported the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said the unidentified couple's bodies were recovered, but the 16-year-old boy was still missing. Fog and darkness hampered the search. KTVU-TV, Oakland, reported state parks officials said the family members tried to save their dog after it got caught in waves 8-10 feet high. The dog made it shore safely.
