Five people, including a Thai policeman, were killed in a clash between Thai police and anti- government protesters in Bangkok on Tuesday, the latest figures released on Wednesday show. The clash that occurred when the police were trying to retake the protest site near the Democracy Monument also injured 70 others, 32 of whom are still under treatment in hospitals, according to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Erawan Emergency Medical Center. Around 25,000 Thai police officers were deployed on Tuesday in a "peace for Bangkok" mission to retake five rally sites near the Democracy Monument, Government House, Energy Ministry, Interior Ministry and Government Complex. They have so far successfully reclaimed the protest site near the Energy Ministry and part of the rally site near the Government Complex. The police operation will continue until all major rally sites in the capital are retaken, said Chalerm Yoobamrung, caretaker Labor Minister and chief of the government-run Center for Maintaining Peace and Order.
