Dozens of people have been injured in a road accident involving more than 100 vehicles in southeastern England on Thursday morning, reported local media. The vehicle collisions happened on the Sheppey crossing bridge in Kent around 7:15 a.m. in thick fog. According to BBC reports, eight of those hurt were in serious injuries, with a further 27 in need of hospital treatment. A spokesman of the South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) said a further 200 people were either treated for minor injuries or given advice should symptoms develop later. A Kent Police spokeswoman said visibility was a problem at the time, and witnesses said there was very thick early morning fog hovering over the bridge. Driver Martin Stammers said the scene was "horrendous" and described seeing cars under lorries and people lying on the floor. He said visibility was about 10 to 20 yards when he approached the bridge and saw five cars smashed into each other with one across the outside lane.
