A suspected United States drone strike targeting a boat in the waters of the Kabul river on Saturday near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border has killed five people, said media reports. According to the media reports, missiles fired by the drone aircraft struck a boat in the Kabul river on the Afghan side of the porous border, close to Loe Shalman area in Landi Kotal subdivision of Pakistans Khyber tribal agency. The reports confirmed the killing of five suspected militants but official authorities have not yet confirmed the strike. Pakistan has condemned the drone strikes several times before and considers it a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity but the US considers drone strikes vital in war against terrorism. Drone strikes are deeply unpopular in Pakistan and political parties blocked NATO supplies heading to Afghanistan through Pakistan in protest.
