Hurricane Fabio made its way westward across the Pacific Ocean Saturday night, far away from major land masses, U.S. forecasters said. In its 8 p.m. PDT advisory, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said the Category 2 hurricane was about 585 miles southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California. Fabio was producing sustained winds of 105 mph with higher gusts and was moving to the west at 9 mph. Because it was so far out to sea, the hurricane center said no coastal watches or warnings were warranted. Fabio was expected to turn to the west-northwest overnight or on Sunday, then veer to the northwest by Monday. The storm was approaching colder water, so forecasters said they expected it to begin to gradually weaken Sunday. Fabio's hurricane force winds were extending outward from its eye up to 35 miles and tropical storm force winds were reaching out up to 125 miles. Fabio became the fifth hurricane of the season on Friday afternoon, more than a month ahead of schedule, the hurricane center said.
