Florida authorities said a man who attempted to rob a convenience store left with only $2 he obtained from a customer. Police said the man, who was wearing dark clothes, a blue hat, black gloves, sunglasses and a bandana over his face, entered the Tom Thumb convenience store in Key Largo at 5:25 p.m. Sunday and displayed a handgun in his waistband when the clerk asked him to remove the bandana, The Key West (Fla.) Citizen reported Wednesday. The man demanded all of the money in the cash register and turned to the customer standing next to him in line when the clerk told him the register was empty. "I'm desperate," police quoted the man as telling the customer. The customer handed over $2 and the robber fled in a green or dark-colored Saturn, police said. They said a witness attempted to follow the vehicle but lost it in traffic.
