The locomotive and the crew report are Russian and report to the North Caucasus territorial division of the Russian Railways.
At the time of reporting, urgent repair works were in progress at the damaged section of the line.
The passenger trains that were scheduled to traverse the damaged section of the line have been rerouted.
Reports also spoke Sunday night about demolition of the track on Ilovaysk-Mospino section of the line.
“Operative reports say a diesel-powered locomotive was on the track at the time of explosion, which damaged three ferroconcrete sleepers and broke up the rails,” the report said.
