Iran’s ‘Jamaran’ warship left the deck here in southern Iran heading to waters of Gulf of Aden Sunday morning during a ceremony attended by Commander of Iran’s Navy Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari. Speaking in the ceremony, the rear admiral referred to ‘Jamaran’ as the symbol of Iran’s combat power and its scientific and industrial capabilities. According to Sayyari, the destroyer was carrying “a message of peace and friendship” for regional states as well as other countries. “Jamaran’s mission is also to provide security for all ships sailing through waters of the Gulf of Aden where has become unsafe due to the presence of pirates,” said the rear admiral. He added that the Iranian warship was sent to the waters of North Indian Ocean to hoist the flag of the Islamic Iran in the region along with other 20-25 of world states that are present there. Jamaran is a 94-meter-long domestically made guided-missile destroyer equipped with torpedoes and is capable of engaging in surface, air, and undersea warfare.
