The Israeli security service said Sunday that it had arrested a six-member Hamas cell that was responsible for the killing of an Israeli civilian in the West Bank in June.
A security spokesperson said the suspects were allegedly involved in the killing of Malachi Rosenfeld, a 25-year-old resident of the Jewish settlement of Kochav Ha'Shahr, in a shooting on June 29. Three other Israeli civilians, also in their 20s, were injured in the incident.
The cell also perpetrated a shooting at Israeli vehicles in the West Bank on June 26, which caused no injuries, the spokesperson said.
Most of the suspects are under Israeli custody, including a Hamas activist who was released in the 2011 Gilad Shalit prisoners swap, the security service said. Most of them are residents of the town of Silwad near Ramallah.
The arrests came four days after Israeli security forces captured six Palestinians on suspicion of killing an Israeli civilian in the West Bank in June.
The number of violent incidents between Israelis and Palestinians has been on the rise since the collapse of the U.S.-brokered peace talks in April 2014.
