Five Japanese road construction workers were buried in a landslide Thursday with one confirmed dead, authorities said. The crew was repairing a cracked road on a mountainous slope in Yurihonjo city in northern Akita prefecture when the road collapsed, swallowing the workers along with their heavy machinery, a city official told AFP. The incident happened around 3:20 pm local time (0620 GMT). Rescue crews later pulled one man's body from the snow-covered slope while four of his colleagues remain missing. The city has been doing work on the closed road for several months, the official said.
