Japan decided on Tuesday to provide emergency aid totaling USD 2 million for people injured by the armed clashes between the Muammar Gaddafi forces and anti-Gaddafi groups in Libya, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said. The aid, a grant, will be extended on requests of the National Transitional Council and the International Committee of the Red Cross budget extension appeal, the ministry said in a statement. It added that the Japanese government will immediately implement this assistance in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross.Together with other assistance already provided such as the emergency grant of USD 5 million, Japan's financial support to Libya will reach about USD 8.2 million since March, according to the ministry.
