Jordan will on Friday celebrate the National Day for Child Safety, which falls on the sixth of June of each year.
The national day coincides with the Ajyaluna Campaign – which means Our Generations in Arabic– which was implemented in 2004 by the Jordan River Foundation (JRF) as a day for child safety in Jordan.
The national day aims at boosting positive child-rearing practices to protect children and to identify, confront and eliminate various forms of abuse through awareness, prevention and rehabilitation programs.
In 2004, under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the Foundation, on June 6, launched a national campaign to raise awareness about child abuse, neglect of children and ways to prevent such a menace.
In 1997 and under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the Foundation launched the Jordan River for Child Safety, with the aim of improving child protection and creating a safe and healthy environment for Jordanian children, as well as decreasing the rates of violence against children at home and school in targeted local communities and foster positive family dynamics through prevention programs and early interventions.
The program provides comprehensive rehabilitation services for child victims of violence and their families. It also educates people about definitions, forms, risk factors and consequences of child abuse, and provides insight into developmentally appropriate child-rearing practices.
