Typhoon Kai-Tak slammed into southeast China, leaving two people dead and two missing, officials said Sunday. Some 530,000 people were evacuated. The typhoon, known as Helen, destroyed about 4,200 houses and damaged another 17,300 in the southern Guangdong province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the National Commission for Disaster Reduction said. The reported deaths and missing people were all from Guangxi, China's Xinhua news agency reported. The Guangxi regional civil affairs department said more than 2.45 million people in 34 counties had been affected by the storm. Kai-Tak has caused more than $232.8 million in damage, Xinhua said.
