A leader of a Russian nationalist movement was jailed on Friday by a court in Moscow. Anton Mukhachyov, one of the founders and leaders of the Severnoye Bratstvo (Northern Brotherhood) movement was sentenced to nine years in prison. The court found Mukhachyov guilty on charges of extremism and fraud. He will serve his sentence in a maximum security prison. The investigation had established that Mukhachyov founded in 2006 a far-right nationalist group whose aim was to overthrow the government by staging a revolution and "cleanse" the country of non-Slavs. In February, a Moscow court sentenced another founder and chief ideologist of Severnoye Bratstvo, Oleg Troshkin, to five years in prison. He was found guilty of running a race-hate online game. The registered users were required to do a variety of tasks in real life in exchange for virtual money. The tasks included acts of vandalism towards state and security services as well as attacks on non-Slavs. President Dmitry Medvedev recently appealed for inter-ethnic calm in Russia, which was rocked by mass race-riots late last year after the murder of a Muscovite football fan. A group of North Caucasus youths have been charged with the murder.
