Russia's chief mufti has praised government plans to continue the construction of a new mosque in Moscow. Construction of the new building of the Russian capital's main mosque has been dogged by delays and technical problems. It is being built next to an old building erected in 1904. Ravil Gainutdin, the head of Russia's Mufti Council, said on Tuesday the construction was set to go ahead and hailed the country's leaders for the "real help" they were giving to Muslims. People across the Islamic world are celebrating Eid al-Fitr today, the festival which marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
