A terrorist attack has been prevented in Dagestan, in Russia’s North Caucasus, the information center of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee reports.
A gunman was neutralized in Dagestan’s Kizilyurt region during an anti-terrorist operation on Monday, it said. “He was preliminarily identified as Alidibir Asudinov, born in 1985, - an active member of the so-called Kizilyurt gang on the federal wanted list for terrorism-related crimes,” its sources said.
“The gang planned a series of high-profile terrorist attacks in the republic,” they added, saying a 15-liter bucket stuffed with explosives, a ready for use self-made explosive device and several sacks with 170 kilograms of explosive material had been found in the house.
The gunman was inside when a house in the settlement of Kirovaul was checked, they said. He opened fire at police, lethally wounding two officers. “The gunman was neutralized with the return fire,” the sources said.
Besides, a GAZelle minibus was found on the outskirts of the settlement, with a ready to be used self-made explosive device in it. “A sub-machine gun, a pistol and grenades were found at the site of the clash,” the National Anti-Terrorist Committee said.
