Flooding and landslides triggered by tropical storm Fernand caused the deaths of at least 13 people in the Mexican state of Veracruz, officials said. Governor Javier Duarte de Ochoa said landslides in three municipalities buried homes under tons of earth, Mexico's El Universal reported. The highest death toll occurred in the community of Gold Rock in Yecuatla Township where a landslide buried six homes with nine people inside. Four others were killed in mudslides that buried homes in Tuxpan and Atzalan. The storm left damage in 19 municipalities and caused six rivers and streams to overflow. Fernand made landfall late Sunday bringing heavy rains to Mexico's east coast before fizzling into a tropical depression on Monday, CNN reported
