A US Navy fighter jet pilot was rescued from the Atlantic Ocean Wednesday afternoon after ejecting from his aircraft, the Navy said. The F/A-18E Super Hornet crashed about 2:30 p.m. EST about 45 miles off the Virginia Beach, Va., coast during routine training, the Navy said in a statement posted on its website. "The pilot ejected from the aircraft and a life raft deployed," the Navy said. "He was recovered by a fishing vessel. The pilot is conscious and was transported to Sentara Norfolk General by a Navy MH-60 Sea Hawk." The F/A-18E is a single-seat, twin-engine aircraft assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 143, based at Naval Air Station Oceana. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
