Nigerian police on Saturday successfully rescued 10 kidnapped persons in southwestern state of Ekiti.
The victims were debriefed and given medical attention, Emmanue Ojukwu, the national police spokesperson said in a statement reaching Xinhua.
Some of the kidnappers had been arrested, while operation was ongoing, Ojukwu added.
He said the police remained responsive and would continue to apply proactive measures to issues of crime nationwide.
Nigeria's Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, had earlier in this week dispatched a crack team of operatives to the state to stem the spate of kidnappings in the area.
Kidnappings and abduction of foreigners for ransom are rampant in southern Nigeria and most victims were released unharmed after payment of ransoms.
