Occupy Columbus shut down

Occupy Columbus, Ohio, protesters pulled down their remaining tent Monday morning after receiving an eviction notice from the city, officials said. Protesters were ordered to remove their tent from the sidewalk in front of the Statehouse by midnight Sunday, The Columbus Dispatch reported. Under a new city ordinance, non-commercial structures can only be in a public right of way for 72 hours and the same person cannot to seek consecutive permits. Previously, structures were allowed to be in place for 30 days. Nearly a year after the Occupy Movement began, protesters in Columbus took down their last surviving tent Monday morning, the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal said. Protesters said a civil lawsuit is in the works that will challenge the ordinance that also requires $100 for a permit and a deposit of at least $500. "The law is poorly written and overreaching," said Robert Crane, 34, an Occupy Columbus supporter.
