A Pennsylvania police chief was in jail Tuesday after being ordered held by a federal magistrate at his arraignment. East Washington Police Chief Donald Solomon was indicted last week on charges of extorting drug dealers and selling Tasers to individuals he allegedly believed with involved in the drug trade. The indictment said Solomon, 55, described himself as "the best cop money can buy" in a secretly recorded conversation with an FBI informant, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said Tuesday. Solomon allegedly agreed to provide police protection for three undercover FBI agents posing as drug traffickers, which is considered an act of extortion. The indictment said Solomon twice stood by in a marked police car while what he believed were drug deals took place in a parking lot.
