
A soldier was killed and three others were wounded Saturday when rebels attacked their outpost in the southern Philippines, an army spokeswoman said.
The guerrillas opened fire at the military detachment in Katiku village in President Quirino town in Sultan Kudarat province, 975 kilometers south of Manila, before dawn, dpa reported.
The troops fought back, but one was killed and three were wounded, said Captain Joann Petinglay, an army spokeswoman.
The rebels also launched a simultaneous attack against an army outpost in Kulasi village in SK Pendatun town in nearby Maguindanao province, but no casualties were reported, she added.
