Two people were dead and three missing after heavy rains hit southern Italy early Tuesday, emergency responders said. A migrant worker in a field was struck by lightning outside of Latina, 45 miles south of Rome. A motorist was killed when floodwaters enveloped her car and flipped it over in Ginosa, a city on Italy's southern coast, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. A married couple and another man were also missing, Ginosa Mayor Vito De Palma said. "The situation is extremely critical and now our attention is wholly concentrated on the three people who are still missing. Only afterward will we take stock of the damages, which are undoubtedly massive," De Palma said. Heavy rains overnight caused flash floods and triggered mudslides, overtaking roads and complicating search-and-rescue operations, ANSA reported.
