The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation into the death of a 24-year old newlywed who had to wait for an ambulance at a Moscow airport, the committee's spokesman said on Monday.
Artyom Chechikov who was returning from his honeymoon suffered a heart attack on board the plane en route from Barcelona to his hometown of Chelyabinsk on August 18, media reports said.
A doctor who happened to be on the plane gave Chechikov first aid but pilots decided to make an emergency landing in Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport and informed the airport staff that an ambulance had to be called.
According to media reports, the ambulance did not arrive in time and Chechikov died two hours after the landing.
The Investigative Committee's spokesman said the criminal case was opened into improper implementation of professional duties that led to Chechikov's death, a felony punishable by up to three years in prison.
