South Korea's Justice Ministry said Thursday it wants to lift a 25-year statute of limitations for prosecuting murder and homicide cases. "We will make every effort to protect people from violent crimes," a ministry official said, the Yonhap News Agency reported. "The plan to lift the statute of limitations reflects our determination to bring murderers to assume responsibility (without time limitations)." Last month, the National Assembly lifted the statute of limitations for rapes against disabled people and children under 13. The ministry also said it plans to allow use of electronic monitoring anklets for robbers to he;p police better track down robbery suspects, a frequent crime. Electronic anklets are now used only for rapists, sex offenders, killers and child kidnappers, but expansion of their use to robbers has been signed into law.
