French President Nicolas Sarkozy has apologised to a policewoman after his teenage son and his friends threw a tomato and pellets at her from the presidential palace, a police source said. Fifteen-year-old Louis, the son of Sarkozy and his ex-wife Cecilia, and his friends were playing Thursday in the courtyard of the Elysee when a tomato was thrown in the direction of a policewoman on the street outside and a pellet hit her on the cheek. The president later met with the policewoman and apologised for his son's behaviour, the source said. The president's office declined to comment. Sarkozy, who last year had a baby girl with his third wife Carla Bruni, also has two adult sons from a first marriage. The right-winger is trailing in the opinion polls behind Socialist Francois Hollande in his bid to get re-elected in a two-round vote in April and May.
