Search ongoing for man's body in silo

Eleven days after a man fell 140 feet into a silo filled with cement powder in South Florida, the search was still ongoing for his body Tuesday, officials said. A spokeswoman for Titan America, the company that owns the Tarmac Cement plant, said that heavy rain and high winds in the area as Tropical Storm Isaac passed by hampered the search for Pierre Mezidor, 58, The Miami Herald reported. Kate McClain said the rain turned the dust in the uncovered silo into a slurry while the wind made it impossible to use a large crane. Mezidor was measuring the level of cement in the silo when its roof fell in. His co-workers quickly realized he had been buried in the cement powder and there was no hope of rescuing him. The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death. Edward Blumberg, a lawyer for Mezidor's family, said they plan to file a lawsuit. Mezidor, a Haitian immigrant, had been working at the plant for 19 years.
