A small plane en route from Tennessee crashed in a wooded area in Gary, Indiana, killing the two passengers aboard, police said. The crash occurred around 11:20am on Wednesday hundreds of feet from the West Gary Lighthouse Charter School, the Chicago Tribune reported. Gary Fire Department Capt. Don Parker told The Post-Tribune of Northwest Indiana two bodies were thrown from the burning wreckage which was scattered over a 40-square-foot area. Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said a single-engine Cirrus plane had been scheduled to land at 11:19am at the Gary Jet Center at the Gary/Chicago International Airport. She said the plane had left Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport in Smyrna, Tenn., at 9:39am. John Black, a representative for the Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport Authority told The Daily News Journal of Murfreesboro, Tenn., the plane had arrived in Smyrna Tuesday night, originating from another location that was not reported.
