A sniper suspected in the wounding of one man and of firing on police and motorists was found dead in a wooded area near Arlington, Wash., Sunday, police said. Seattle's KING-TV reported police said they were still searching for any other possible suspects. "We are going to stay out here until we are sure that this community is safe and we've dealt with anyone out here that's got a firearm and shooting at people," Lt. Steve Dittoe of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said. The Seattle Times reported the Sheriff's Office confirmed a suspect was dead. The newspaper said at 4:30 p.m. scanner traffic indicated police had spotted a man with a scoped rifle, and shot and killed him. KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported a 26-year-old man sent his children into the house after hearing what sounded like fireworks or gunfire about 1:30 p.m., then was shot in the leg when he went back outside with his father to investigate. "Immediately our officers understood that there was someone in the woods, shooting at either vehicles or people in the area, so we initiated a SWAT team call out," said Dittoe. The officers and an armored vehicle then came under fire, he said. "From what I've heard from down at the scene there was a lot of shooting this afternoon -- at us," he said. Area residents were told to stay inside and about 70 people at a Sons of Norway camp at Riley Lake were in lockdown, KING-TV said. KOMO-TV reported police initially did not approach the suspect's body in case there were booby traps on the property.
