A total of 364 people were killed in road accidents across Thailand during the Songkran holiday or the Thai New Year, official data showed Thursday.
During the seven-day monitoring period from April 9 to 15 for Songkran, 3,373 road accidents happened nationwide, injuring 3,559 others, according to the road safety center.
The death toll increased by 42 from the same period last year, the centre said, adding motorcycle driving and driving under the influence were the main causes of fatalities.
The northern province of Phetchabun has the highest death toll, while no fatalities have been reported in provinces of Phuket, Mae Hong Son, Yala, Samut Songkram and Samut Sakhon, according to the center.
