At least five people were killed while 30 others sustained injuries after several coaches of a train derailed in the eastern state of Maharashtra, government sources said Friday. The incident happened in the Ghoti area in Nasik district of Maharashtra when ten coaches and the engine of the Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Express got derailed leading to deaths and injuries of passengers, said the sources. They added that relief and rescue operations were in full swing as fire brigades, railway police and rural security personnel have been pressed into service. They said cranes have been acquired to lift the derailed coaches. They further said the injured have been hospitalized and that the cause of the mishap was being investigated. On the other hand, railway authorities have supplied a special train to carry the stranded passengers towards their destinations. The accident badly affected the rail-traffic leading to cancellation of many trains trips.
