A total of 11 people have been killed by typhoon Rammasun in Vietnam as of Monday, said Vietnam' s National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control.
According to a report by the committee, among the 11 deaths in Vietnam, three were struck by lightening while the remaining eight were washed away by the flood.
Vietnam's northern Lang Son province, some 130 km north of capital Hanoi and bordering China in the north, was the hardest hit by the typhoon with five deaths, according to China's (Xinhua) News Agency.
In response to flash flood and landslides in northern Vietnam, approximately 5,500 households have been evacuated to safe places, state-run radio (VOV) quoted the committee as saying on Monday.
Typhoon Rammasun made landfall in Vietnam's northeastern Quang Ninh province's Mong Cai city, some 220 km northeast of Hanoi, on Saturday morning.
