Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said Tuesday that she was afraid the west of Bangkok might remain flooded until after the New Year. Although the premier would like the flooding situation to end before next year she is not confident that her government would be able to cope with the situation in the western part of the city. As for remedial measures for flood-hit households, Pm Yingluck assigned Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit to oversee and consider fairer methods for compensating those whose houses have been inundated for over seven days. Out of Bangkok's 12 districts affected by floods, three are on the western side -- Bang Khunthian, Thawi Wattana and Taling Chan. Northern areas of the capital city where the country's second airport is located were the first to be swamped in late October. Nearly two million out of about 10 million people in the most densely populated city have been ordered to evacuate.
