Cuba's Roniel Iglesias won the men's Olympic light welterweight (64kgs) gold on Saturday with a 22-15 win over Ukraine's Denys Berinchyk. Having lost in the semi-finals, Mongolia's Munkh-Erdene Uranchimeg and Italy's Vincenzo Mangiacapre won bronze medals. Iglesias, the 2009 world champion who will celebrate his 24th birthday on Tuesday, improved on the bronze he won in Beijing two years ago with a solid display. He deserved the title having been consistent en route to the final and claimed an 18-15 win over Brazil's world champion Everton dos Santos in the Round of 16. With some quick jabs and solid head shots, the Cuban took the first round 5-4, having knocked Berinchyk down, and maintained his work-rate to take the second 6-5. Berdych was out-classed in the third as Iglesias upped the pace and finished by taking the round 11-6 to take gold.
