Goals from Maartje Paumen and Carlien Dirkse van de Heuvel lifted the Netherlands to the Olympic field hockey gold medal Friday with a 2-0 win over Argentina. It was the second straight Olympic title for the Netherlands and its fifth medal in the sport overall. Goalkeeper Joyce Sombroeck turned aside all four of Argentina's shots and preserved a tie game until the Netherlands struck late in the contest. The goals came in the 45th and 54th minutes. It was the fourth straight Olympic medal for Argentina, which also settled for the silver in 2000 and then won bronze in both 2004 and 2008. The bronze medal this year went to Britain, which defeated New Zealand 3-1 in the third-place game. It was Britain's first women's field hockey medal in 20 years.
