Sao Paulo have signed Uruguay international defender Alvaro Pereira from Inter Milan on an 18-month loan deal, local media reported on Friday. The Brazilian outfit paid Inter one million euros, with the option of securing the player on a permanent move for seven million euros in June 2015, according to Folha de S. Paulo. He will compete for the starting left-back spot with Reinaldo, Carleto and Clemente Rodriguez, but can also be used in midfield. "The Uruguayan asked to leave the Italian club to gain visibility before the World Cup," the newspaper said. Pereira has made just two first-team starts for Inter Milan this season.Despite his lack of match fitness he was a part of Uruguay's squad that defeated Jordan 5-0 on aggregate in their World Cup qualifying playoff in November.
