The Carolina Hurricanes traded four-time all-star Eric Staal to the New York Rangers in a four-player deal that reunites him with his brother Marc, the Rangers announced on Sunday.
Carolina received center Aleksi Saarela and two second-round draft picks. One of the choices will be in 2016 and the other in 2017.
The 31-year-old Canadian Staal joins defenseman Marc who is in his ninth NHL season with the Rangers.
Eric is in the final season of a seven-year, $55.75 million deal with Carolina, where he has spent the past 12 seasons.
Eric, who was MVP of the 2008 all-star game, has 322 goals and 453 assists for 775 career points. He has scored 30 or more goals five times, topped by 45 in 2005-06 when he reached 100 points for the lone time in his career.
