The first preparatory meeting of the 3rd Nuclear Security Summit will be held in Turkey's Istanbul on Tuesday. The meeting, slated for Nov. 27-28, will draw the participation of "high level officials appointed with the task of making proposals to the heads of states and governments and their delegations," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said. The 3rd Nuclear Security Summit, aiming to prevent illicit trafficking of nuclear material and nuclear terrorism, and to merge the efforts towards the goal of achieving nuclear security and safety, will be held in the Netherlands in 2014. The first two summits were held in Washington of the United States in April, 2010 and Seoul of South Korea in March 2012, respectively. In the preparatory meeting, "Over fifty states and international organizations, with around 150 representatives will be analyzing the concrete steps taken since the Seoul Summit in March, begin the preparations for the 2014 The Hague Summit and analyze areas of international cooperation," according to the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
